I am not familiar with Maki-e art but I find the artistry dazzling in its beauty, skill and design - and I like the scene very much - Sibelius wrote a symphony (5th), in which the theme is a reflection of his love of cranes:

“Every day I have seen the cranes”, he confided to his diary one day in 1915. “Flying
south in full cry with their music. Their cries echo throughout my very being”.

This is my feeling also, so the image on your gift is especially meaningful.

I have been using your pen today (a Parker With Maki-e art - I can't believe it!) - it writes beautifully, and will be my constant companion.
